Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp

Servings: 6–8 | Prep Time: 15 min | Cook Time: 40–45 min


Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 6 cups fresh apples (peeled, cored, and sliced – about 6 medium apples)

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker filling)

For the crisp topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup cold butter (cubed)


Instructions

  1. Prep the apples:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

    • In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and cornstarch (if using).

    • Spread evenly into a greased 9x13 baking dish.

  2. Make the topping:

    • In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, and salt.

    • Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture is crumbly.

  3. Assemble and bake:

    • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.

    • Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.

  4. Serve:

    • Cool slightly, then serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
