Spicy Venison Stromboli

 

Spicy Venison Sausage Mix

Mix with 1 lb ground venison

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground venison
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or bacon fat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp fennel seed (crushed)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp brown sugar

Instructions

Mix everything together thoroughly.
Let it sit for 15–30 minutes if possible to develop flavor.

Brown in a pan over medium heat until fully cooked. Set aside.


Stromboli Filling

Once the sausage is cooked, add:

  • Spicy venison sausage
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Provolone cheese
  • Banana peppers
  • Roasted red peppers
  • Thin sliced onion
  • Pepperoni (optional)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes

Optional:

  • Light spread of marinara or Calabrian chili paste inside for extra flavor

How to Make the Stromboli

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Roll bread dough into a large rectangle
  3. Spread a thin layer of marinara or spicy sauce
  4. Add sausage mixture evenly
  5. Top with peppers, onions, and cheese
  6. Roll tightly into a log
  7. Place seam side down on a baking sheet
  8. Brush with egg wash
  9. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and parmesan
  10. Cut a few small vents in the top
  11. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden brown

Garlic Butter Finish (Highly Recommended)

Melt together:

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Pinch of salt

Brush over the stromboli right when it comes out of the oven.


Dipping Sauce Ideas

Serve with:

  • Warm marinara
  • Ranch
  • Spicy garlic sauce
